NOTICEBOARD

*IMPORTANT NOTICE PLEASE READ*

With the largest of the Society’s annual sales fast approaching we would like to remind all Members of their responsibilities with respect to welfare and bio security procedures surrounding taking sheep to and from markets.

All sheep must be presented free from lameness, injury, illness, parasitic diseases etc., and any flock or individual animal with problems must be withdrawn from the sale and not brought the market as per usual market guidelines. It is recommended that new sheep purchased should be isolated from any existing sheep you own when you take them home, to ensure there is no potential for cross-contamination.

All sheep at our forthcoming National Show & Sale at Carlisle will be sold under the Conditions of Sale for Sheep of the LAA for England and Wales (https://laa.co.uk), and further information on biosecurity on sheep farms can be found on the NADIS and SCOPS websites: https://www.nadis.org.uk/disease-a-z/sheep/biosecurity-on-sheep-farms  and https://www.scops.org.uk/

Sadly the current situation with Bluetongue may affect some of our members, including those who had planned to come to Carlisle this weekend. Members should familiarise themselves with current government guidelines and control zones, the latest details of which can be found here:

What we do

The mission of the Shetland Sheep Society is to promote all aspects of the breed, to encourage the breeding, keeping and welfare of Shetland Sheep and to uphold the 1927 Breed Standard, within the UK.

We do this by exhibiting our sheep, their wool and craft products, at shows and events all over the UK.
